Judge halts fish poisoning plan proposed in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness

Judge Donald Molloy wrote that a proposal to poison the existing population of rainbow trout to make way for Yellowstone cutthroat trout “diminishes wilderness character on almost every level.” The U.S. Forest Service and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks developed the plan to establish suitable habitat for the coldwater trout species amid warming streamflows.
