Where and when will the event take place?

Free Press Fest will take place September 16-18, 2025 in Bozeman, Montana on the Montana State University campus. Sessions will take place in the Strand Union Building and Norm Asbjornsen Hall.

Who will be speaking at the festival?

Do I need a pass or tickets to attend?

Yes! While attending is free, registration is required for a conference pass. Admission to Free Press Fest 2025 is free and open to the public, made possible by a sponsorship from Montana State University. Pre-registration is now closed, but you can access our waitlist using the link here.

I wasn’t able to pre-register. Will there be tickets at the door?

We will have minimal availability for registration at the door. A waitlist has been created through our Eventbrite Registration page. If tickets are released and you are next in line for All-Conference Passes on our waitlist, you will receive an email notification to claim your pass(es).

Where should I stay in Bozeman?


The host hotel for Free Press Fest is The Lark Hotel in downtown Bozeman. A 25% discount off the best available rate is available to Free Press Fest attendees!

Where do I pick up my Free Press Fest badge?

Passes will be available for pickup at the registration desk upon arrival to the conference. Registration will be located in the MSU SUB foyer outside Ballroom A.

Where do I park on campus at MSU?

Visitor parking on the MSU campus is available in the parking garage behind Norm Asbjornson Hall at the corner of S 7th and Grant. Parking is $5 for the first hour, $2.50 for additional hours, or $12 per day if paid up front. Parking is also available in visitor lots at Bobcat Stadium. Use the passport app or visit the lot’s parking kiosk to pay for parking upon arrival.

What is the code of conduct at Free Press Fest?

We respectfully ask all in attendance to abide by all local, state and federal laws and
by guidelines set forth by Montana Free Press and Montana State University. Please
be courteous to and respectful of all other guests, staff, moderators and speakers.
Facility and event management reserves the right to deny entry or eject anyone,
without refund, who displays disrespectful or otherwise inappropriate behavior during festival events. For emergencies please dial 911. For other assistance please locate festival staff wearing orange lanyards.

Will there be security at the event?

Yes. We are working closely with University PD and the facilities staff on security protocols that prioritize a safe experience for speakers and attendees at Free Press Fest.
