A coalition of 20 counties is pushing for a new passenger rail route through Billings, Bozeman and Missoula. Opponents believe the rail industry isn’t ready and it will distract from challenges facing existing long-distance passenger routes, like the one in northern Montana. Even if advocates for the new route prevail, it will be a long time before you can get on board.
