From ‘safe harbor’ to stranded

Montana ended its relationship with a longstanding nonprofit that ran a recovery and monitoring program for health professionals, turning to a global company to fill the void. Current participants of the Montana Recovery Program, members of licensing boards and medical associations say the tumultuous transitions have weakened a critical resource for health care workers struggling with substance use disorder, unraveling a home-grown network of trust, peer support and oversight that is not easily remade.
