A new report shows that Montana had one of the largest drops in childhood Medicaid enrollment from April to December 2023, when the state was re-evaluating Medicaid eligibility for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. Researchers say the state’s end-of-year childhood enrollment was also 15% lower than pre-pandemic levels — the biggest reduction of any state in the country.
